You've worked on a number of Drupal projects, have used many of the contrib modules out there and regularly use Drush. However, you haven't taken the plunge into creating custom code with Drupal. This presentation will show you how easy it is to get started. We will go over some basics of the Drupal theming system, create a tpl/twig file to change the output of a particular entity. We will also go over some basics of the hook system and create a custom module that uses hook_form_alter. We will use examples for both Drupal 7 and 8 and this will serve as something of an introduction to Drupal 8 coding for those who have coded in Drupal 7 only.
By the end of this presentation, you should be able to do some basic things within Drupal in code and more importantly, know where to look when you have a problem that needs to be solved. Attendees are encouraged to have a Drupal install on their laptops and follow along. A feature will be available so that attendees will have the same starting point as the presenter.
